Fall & Winter Projects
Blankets, Winter Kits & Stocking Stuffers

From the fall and through the holidays can be an especially difficult time for those experiencing homelessnes. Not only is it challenging to address the basic needs of food and warmth of this community, it is a time when a little bit of cheer can go a long way.  Also, now that school is in full swing, we are able to involve our school community to be a part of these projects to raise their awareness as well as demonstrate the significance of service. Right now we are planning on three different projects: 1) Blankets, 2) Winter Kits and 3) Stocking Stuffers. We have recently have submitted for microgrants to support these projects, and we hope to find out soon whether we have been awarded the funding.

Blankets

On November 16th through the 20th, eighth graders at our school will assemble the blankets. We intend on distributing them by the following Saturday, November 28th to the men and women experiencing homelessness in Baltimore.

Winter Kits

Our winter kits are bags filled with winter necessities that includes socks, gloves, hand warmers, tissues, hats, water and snacks that can help make the cold season just a little bit easier. During the week of November 30th, we will work with members of our Upper School club to procure the supplies and assemble the kits. We intend on distributing to those experiencing homelessness by that weekend.

Stocking Stuffers

Around the holidays, we will put together stockings stuffed with hand warmers, chewy bars, peppermint and hand sanitizers. We will put this little bundle together in partnership with our Pre-School students at our school. We will work with these students to put them together during the week of December 7th, and we will distribute these stockings before the winter holidays.

While these projects are no permanent solution to help people experiencing homelessness in Baltimore, we hope that they help them get through the winter and give them a little piece of joy. We find that by involving our entire student body, we continue to promote the impact of giving back to our community and the significance of service.

Even though we are applying for a microgrant to fund these projects, we welcome any support to help us prepare for the Sping and Summer. It will not only allow us better prepare but also allow us to extend our reach and consider other ways we can reach this community. Please consider giving your support to help those experiencing homelessnes.
